Little Holiday Nothings

Posted on November 30, 2008

Hope everyone had a nice Holiday! We enjoyed a quiet few days around the house just doing lots of little nothings really. Working on getting a studio setup that we don’t have to take down after every shoot. I’m looking forward to completing this project, stay tuned!

Strobe Lighting

Posted on November 14, 2008

My first attempt at using strobe lighting. I have TONS to learn, but I can already tell that I am going to LOVE LOVE LOVE working with it once I really know what I’m doing. Thanks Shani-girl for being such a sport today.

Money Shot {Enhanced}

Posted on November 7, 2008

It’s been a quiet week, nothing new to post. Thought I’d post an image that DH shot at that boxing event last week. I really love the feel to this one! {I put my watermark on it, don’t have one made up for DH, and since the pc switch to Vista I lost a few brushes to include the KLS-Images one. Note to self: must make new brushes!}
It’s SWEET… nice job darl!

DIAAB Boxing 2008

Posted on November 2, 2008

DH and I decided to try shooting a boxing event last night. It was the first time shooting like this, the low lighting really was difficult to handle with no flash. Thankfully, Don Patterson of DIAAB Entertainment allowed us to approach the ring at our leisure {of course we stayed there for the whole night! AWESOME!}. I’d like to give this another try where there was real lighting for the ring. I think that would make a huge difference, along with actually having a lens suitable for sports. We were both using a 25-105mm 2.8, the 2.8 was good….. but still had to shoot at my highest ISO and the D200 does not handle noise well when you get above ISO of 800 IMHO.

I remember shooting my first cycling event in Rochester and I was overwhelmed at how fast the riders whizzed by, wondered how I would ever capture anything in good focus. A year later, I think I have a good handle on that so I’m sure I’ll get this boxing thing down too with practice! Thanks Don, for allowing us such a wonderful ringside advantage!

I converted these all to Black and White as the colors just didn’t handle well with the low lighting. I tried shooting in Black and White on the fly but I would need to develve into how to adjust the contrast and such within that setting as the default wasn’t to my liking. I like the old Black and White boxing images from days of old anyway….. so this sort of worked out in the end. I’m certainly looking forward to having another try at this type of thing. -K
