Chaotic Portrait

This guy landed ontop of Miss M’s hood, I thought she was going to freak out. I kept telling her not to move so I could get the shot and she of course was in a panic because she didn’t know what was on her. These ones were smaller than the ones I like to shoot, the big ones didn’t seem to be landing and kept further into the reeds. I was trying hard not to laugh AND trying to keep Miss M calm enough for me to grab a shot….. what a scene that was!

Fall Western NY

These were taken out in the Sardinia, Boston, Riceville, Ashford and other little locals I’m not familiar with in WNY. Not quite as nice as other years, the leaves never seemed to come back in full force after the ice storms over the last two years and this year it really showed during the color change. There were many trees that lost almost all their leaves already, and some that were still in full bloom. I think last weekend {when our vehicle both were having major issues} would have been the best weekend to get out there. So…. this is what I have from the day.
Hope you enjoy these if you are visiting from some place that does not have such change in color.

This and That

We’ve had a busy weekend trying to find some suitable vehicles for our budget. Managed to find one vehicle for hubby, still looking for something for me. Limited funds make it difficult to really find anything that will last longer than a few months which kind of stinks but that is the situation at the moment. So, we’ll roll with the punches and see what we can work out.

This first image is from the last cyclocross race at UB. This graffiti was underneath a bridge on the campus, I liked it so I shot it. The second image is one that my husband shot on our travels yesterday. As much as I would have loved to spend the day shooting EVERYTHING we had seen, things were crazy and I was too pre-occupied with the vehicle situtation to feel comfortable enough to concentrate on shooting. HOPING we can get out this coming weekend just to shoot the landscapes……….. simply GORGEOUS right now.

Feeling Better

I’m happy to report that my back feels about 75% better than it did yesterday which is a HUGE improvement! It’s still a bit painful when getting up and taking those first few steps, but after that it’s really good and I’m definitely moving more easily. YAY!! I can see in the mirror where there’s swelling in that area, so once the swelling goes down I’m sure things will be improved greatly.

Still working on the car issue. Unfortunately the car will cost too much to repair which makes me sad as it was my father’s car. He gave it to me before he passed away and that was pretty much all I had left of him. Sad to see it go, but I guess it’s time to move on. I just hate buying someone else’s used car cuz you just never know what other problems you’re buying into, and when money is an issue, your choices are limited. I don’t want a new car, it’s not an option and I like that we haven’t had car payments in a very very long time. Keeping hopeful thoughts that something good will happen our way.

When bad turns worse

I guess when things are going bad, more bad things tend to happen. Not getting around well with my back from the weekend but trying to get on with things and then … my car decided to lose it’s reverse drive today, no neutral, no reverse. It was a lovely moment with my backend sticking out into traffic only a half a block from my own driveway! I dunno what happened. I heard a pop, then seen a trail of liquid out my rearview mirror and decided I’d better turn around and head back to the house. While doing a 3 point turn I realized I had no reverse and nearly ended up in a ditch. Luckily my hubby and a stranger were able to get it back on the road and we drove it back into the driveway. That’s where it’s currently sitting, and I have no idea what we’re going to do. I expected hubby’s truck {just a cheap junker jeep} to take a major dump any day but never expected my car to have issues. UGH!!

Later in the day I find out that my son is getting married on the 15th. A week day. No way we can drive either of our vehicles that far, we can’t afford to miss work now that we both are in need of transportation……. seems like when things wrong, it all goes down hill quickly and unexpectedly.

Thanks for letting me vent. Off to figure out how I’m getting around town the rest of the week.

A few shots from another Cyclocross race out at UB today. I was at a disadvantage though, I wasn’t able to bend or get down for some of my favorite angle shots. Yesterday I somehow hurt my back as I stood up from a chair. Don’t ask me how, but… it went out for sure. I was in really bad shape most of last night, and didn’t think I’d make it this morning. Surprisingly I was able to walk with minimal pain, but bending was out of the question, getting down on the ground wasn’t happening either. So my shot selections were limited. I do like some shots from today, it wasn’t a total loss. -K

God is good

It was cold and windy but the sun was out so I thought I’d stop by my favorite place here on the island and as I was walking to get to the nature trail I’ve walked countless times I thought to myself “What am I doing?, It’s freezing and my fingers are getting numb, everything looks blah at eye level and there’s nothing around today”.

Then out of the corner of my eye I see a large shadow, and I mean LARGE shadow moving overhead. I could hardly believe my luck… it was an American Bald Eagle {Adult} with a little treat in the talons!!!!! I’ve lived here nearly 6 years and have heard they are around here but have never actually seen one this close to home. I nearly pee’d myself trying to get a shot I was so excited!! Now these shots are cropped in and not great, BUT… it gives me hope that one day I may actually be able to get some killer shots of this bird right here in my local area, which thrills me to no end. THEN… I see another bird of prey flying nearby, couldn’t tell you which one this is, a falcon of some kind? Dunno… but thrilling just the same. THEN, yep, no lie… THEN, this Great Blue Heron nearly flew in ontop of me and scared the bajeebies outta me. I managed to get a few snaps off before it noticed me and flew off.

I tell ya, it seems like there’s nothing going on and all of a sudden there’s all kinds of things happening. I love days like this. Granted, none of these images are award winning, but the hope is worth so much more for me!!! YAY!

It’s beginning to look a lot like……… Fall! The color change is on its way, WOOHOO!!
I was shooting the cyclocross last weekend, and this was just one view of the surrounding countryside. I just love this time of year!
